Case Study: Express Concrete Erith

The Express Concrete project at Erith involved the construction of several critical components, including a feed hopper and piled foundations for a concrete plant. The feed hopper allowed for direct discharge from trucks, eliminating the need for a loading shovel. The project was situated near the Thames River, making it necessary for a de-watering system to allow us to dig over 7 meters deep for the creation of the feed hopper.

Challenges included the depth of excavation, careful consideration of tide times for concreting, and the need for appropriate de-watering systems and temporary ground shoring to ensure safety and efficiency.

This project represents a strategic growth opportunity for the client, enhancing their competitiveness and market reach.

How we implemented the works and solved the challenges we were asked to resolve:

The successful execution of this project involved precise excavation for both the feed hopper and the piled foundations for the concrete plant. Coordination with tide times was critical to manage potential flooding during construction. De-watering systems were deployed to control groundwater levels, and a temporary ground shoring system was used to support the excavation and prevent collapse.

The fact that the project included not only the feed hopper but also piled foundations for a concrete plant underscores the complexity and scope of the project. Vision Groundworks' ability to manage these challenges and execute such a project demonstrated the client's confidence in their capabilities.

What the outcome of the project was and what the outcome was for the client:

The outcome of the Express Concrete project at Erith was the successful construction of a second concrete plant by Vision Groundworks. This new plant provided Express Concrete with access to the construction market on both sides of the Thames River.

This expansion to a second plant significantly increased Express Concrete's production capacity and geographical reach, allowing them to serve construction projects on both sides of the river and further solidifying their presence in the industry. It represents a strategic growth opportunity for the client, enhancing their competitiveness and market reach.
